Live Class Session has ended now.

Nadi -  channels through which every living thing's life force flows.  When the Nadis are strong and clear life energy flows seamlessly giving strength and vitality. But if blocked by unresolved or repressed emotions, energy flow can slow and ebb, leading to health issues and complications.

Mindfulness is simply; paying attention, on purpose, with an open heart.

It might not be so much what you eat, but what you think, that can make you sick.

Reducing your risk of everything from ulcers to obesity, anxiety and heart disease could be as easy as reducing your stress levels.(Harvard University July, 2020)

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction has been helping people prevent, reverse, and manage chronic disease since it was developed by John Kabat-Zinn in 1979.

In this day long mini retreat we will address the main causes of your chronic stress and teach you effective techniques for managing it to help you reduce your risk of stress related illnesses.

When you leave you will have a working knowledge of mindfulness, its health benefits, and how to apply it to your daily life through meditation and yoga.

PLUS!! Enjoy a delicious and nutritious plant based lunch provided by The Pink Cactus DFW and explore the majesty of the Nature Center with access of the entire park for the whole day!

Why is reducing stress important to my health?

Chronic long term stress, even low level micro stressors, can have a profound effect on your health and well being in a number of ways.

The stress response is intended to be a short term response to danger, helping to preserve the likelihood of survival.  Known as the fight or flight response, this process kicks into high gear when a potential threat is perceived.
While this response is helpful in the presence of physical or environmental stressors, like bear attacks & earthquakes, it is not helpful in the presence of psychological stressors, like job deadlines or test taking.
The exact same flood of hormones, tensing of muscles, shutting down of digestion, and shunting of blood away from non vital organs occurs whether you are replaying a fight with your spouse or running from a man eating lion.  And because few of us have much control over our thoughts and their complex circular patterns, sustained long term activation of the fight or flight response caused by psychological stressors can start to have some pretty detrimental effects on our health across multiple categories.  Some of which are listed here...

Common stress related health risks

  • Elevated blood pressure, increasing your risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Suppression of the immune system, increasing your risk of illness.
  • Retardation of metabolic responses, increasing your for obesity, diabetes, and other weight related illnesses
  • Decrease serotonin and oxytocin levels, increasing your risk of depression, anxiety, impaired social function, and loss of sex drive.

My journey began...

As a yoga instructor, teaching clients the physical practice of yoga that most are familiar with.  But it wasn't long before I realized that it was less the physical aspect of yoga, and more the spiritual awakening of mindfulness that called me to it.    After discovering mindfulness and experiencing first hand the deep reaching, paradigm shifting power of the art of present awareness, I knew I had to share it with the world.  We all wish that the world were a kinder, safer place, that we were healthier, that our relationships were deeper and more intimate, that we were happier, less stressed, and all around better people. We hope these things will happen . Try to make them happen, but for most, these wishes end up being just that, wishes, not reality.  Mindfulness takes nice ideas and transforms them into tangible goals any of us can grasp.  Mindfulness changes lives because it gets us out of auto-pilot and into the arena where the action is. It brings us into the present where joy, love, anguish, pleasure, pain, everything is happening and grants us the power to realize our full potential.  The changes we want to see in the world, in ourselves don't happen in grand sweeping single event fashion, they are the accumulation of millions of subversive acts of kindness, love, and initiative by people just like you and me, living authentic messy lives.  Let's live life on purpose together, and make ourselves and the world a better place!   Join me April 23rd, 9am at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge to learn and practice mindfulness and the art of present awareness.
